Sitting in the Sun Watching the Spuds Grow…. (Or My Great Big Happy Potato Hedge)

This is where I am really up to… and I swear to God you can see the spuds growing…. yesterday morning I remember thinking that they were about 6 – 7 inches below the hanging basket. Now…. about 2 inches! So I’ve put a pretty big gallery underneath here just to keep this up to date. It’s a bit of a jungle at the moment (much to The Pixie Who Must Be Obeyed’s amusement…. not!) but I’m just sussing out where everything is going!

Okay, so last week was The Pixie Who Must Be Obeyed’s 50th birthday – and just like she made a cake for me, I made a cake for her.. only I think mine was better – so, here’s your task for the day – a cake or a biscuit? Cake or biscuit….. there’s only one way to find out!! Fight………………………………………!!!

What The **** Has Happened to the Lake District???

So – go on – enlighten me! When did Cumbria turn into Lakedistrictworld™ ????  I admit it’s been a while since I’ve been there – bloody years in fact, and it is  still incredibly beautiful… but the towns… let me give you a scene.

Bowness on Windermere. Lovely place – or it was – so there we are sitting on the quaintest little pub patio sipping our beers surrounded by what looked like a stag do of some sort – bouncers – yup, bouncers – on the pub door, listening to some dickhead behind us describing to his mate how he chased someone down the road as he was going to “do him”. It’s Birkenhead on a Friday night. It’s Chav central. Where did Bowness on bloody Windermere go??

Let’s talk about food. £12 for 2 portions of shit awful fish and chips. A £35 curry that was beyond disgusting – I’ve had an Asda microwave curry that had more taste, and a beef roast dinner that may as well have been a Birds Eye microwave dinner that cost me £8! The Beatrix Potter Experience – or Beatrix Potter World, or whatever it was called… Sheesh! Good job the views are still good – rant over!

The Big Project (The Next Bit) Or.. Why My Back Is Hurting So Much…

LadybirdSaw 6 ladybirds all within 5 minutes the other day… supposed to be a sign of a nice summer, is that… here’s hoping! Anyway, how am I doing in mumsie’s garden, well the great news is that the tree is down – all the mess has gone and I’ve just finished the second of the 4 foot by 15 raised beds! Yay for me – though I have to say that the soil is bloody awful and I may have to resort to some topsoil for the next few… So what’s left to do? Well, I have one more 4 foot bed to dig and 2 little beds – probably about 4 foot long by a foot and a half wide. Then a flower bed, a garden arch, a trellis, about half a dozen square home made wooden planters, 4 4 foot plastic ones, about 6 hanging baskets and a lie down in a dark room for… oooo…. ages! Oh, and then I have my own wee garden too. (See seperate blog about that one.)  So what’s going in then? Well, the broad beans are in, so are the peas and a full row of second early spuds. The next 4 foot is for more spuds – mains – and the one I have yet to dig is for sweetcorn (yum)! After that, sprouts in the home made planters, and possibly cabbage and certainly carrots in the small beds, possibly lettuce in the plastic planters.  Anyway, Here is a gallery of progress to date – latest entries at the bottom! Oooo my poor aching back…………
