Day 12 And Mike Gets Painting

Day 12 (I’ve had a few days off due to lethargy and general busyness…. now there’s a mix!) and the weather continues to be…. erm… challenging! Yesterday we must have had an inch and a half of rain in about half an hour – my poor little seedlings got all but washed away – so I’ll have to re-plant some of them! On the bright side since I last wrote we have had some of our sweetcorn, radishes and rocket – and most things continue to grow! Because the weather has been so awful I’ve been pretty much confined to the shed painting stuff, but I do have the batons and trellises done, as well as the stand for the seedlings. Today’s plan is initially I am off to Thingwall to go and get some top soil (yes, it’s Freecycle again!) and then if the weather holds I want to finally build the bench in the shed – the sticking point has been enough wood to make the legs and a jigsaw to cut the worktops – well I am happy to report that I found quite a few bits of wood that had fallen down the back of the shed  – enough to make the legs, anyway – and we have now borrowed a jigsaw and a circular saw from The Pixie who must be obeyed’s mum so it’s all systems go! ( I have however been told that I am not allowed to use either unsupervised!!)

We have also managed to study our home brew kits and the wine making kit makes 31 bottles – hmm.. we currently have 6…. looks like it may be a while before we get around to that one – mind you, the beer one makes 40 pints and we don’t have any beer bottles at all – forward planning, eh? Oo… and here’s a secret – I’ve ordered a few odd seeds to surprise the Pixie with – Dragon fruit and Tamarillo – both very odd ones, hehe – I may tell her they are another type of lettuce when they start to appear – ah……… I can hear the sighs from here!
